Doom, Street Fighter II and the 1990s: When Genres Changed
The decade that pushed arcade competition, immersive action and new design expectations.

Two milestones, two different revolutions
Street Fighter II (1991) energized competitive fighting games with distinct characters, precise timing and face-to-face arcade matches. Doom (1993) popularized fast first-person shooting on PCs and helped spread the culture of shareware distribution and player-made levels.
Design became a conversation
Players exchanged tactics, discovered secrets and built communities around mastering mechanics. The 1990s also saw rapid technical transitions, but outstanding 2D games continued to thrive alongside emerging 3D worlds.
Why we still look back
The most useful inspiration is how these games made controls and feedback feel consequential. As a Fuerteventura-based indie videogame and game soundtrack studio, we aim to combine that clarity with our own characters, stories and sound.
